Bhubaneswar’s heat, humidity and monsoon rainfall make the location of outdoor furniture an important part of material selection. Furniture placed on an uncovered terrace will experience considerably more weather exposure than pieces positioned under a covered balcony, pergola or roof.

Before choosing a material, consider exposure, usage and maintenance. These three factors provide a more practical starting point than choosing a finish based on appearance alone:-

Different areas can also use different materials. A covered dining area may allow greater flexibility, while furniture placed in an exposed garden needs closer attention to sunlight, rainfall and routine upkeep. Fabrics and cushions should be considered in the same way, particularly where furniture is likely to remain outdoors through the monsoon.

Good drainage and adequate overhead protection can further help manage moisture around the furniture. The objective is not to select one material for the entire property but to match each piece to the conditions in which it will actually be used.

What to consider before buying outdoor furniture in Bhubaneswar

A good outdoor furniture setup starts with a clear understanding of the space. Before selecting individual pieces, consider:-

• Measure the area – account for furniture dimensions as well as walking space, doors and access routes

• Check sun and rain exposure – observe which parts of the space receive direct sunlight and where rain reaches most heavily

• Decide the level of shade – determine whether you need an open arrangement, permanent cover or a retractable roofing system

• Match materials to use – poolside, garden, balcony and restaurant furniture can have different requirements

• Consider maintenance – plan for cleaning furniture, fabrics and cushions during Bhubaneswar’s humid and rainy periods

• Plan furniture and roofing together – the furniture layout should work with the position of the roof, shade and drainage

This approach also helps avoid choosing furniture first and trying to solve exposure and shade requirements afterwards. Planning these elements together usually gives you greater flexibility in how the outdoor area can be used.
